Campaign to collect soil for Sardar Patel's statue

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, on Thursday, alognwith Sh. Kamal Sharma (President Punjab BJP Unit) launched his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi inspired campaign of collecting soil from different sacred places and agriculture implements in Punjab for the installation of life-sized statue in the memory of Sardar Patel, the great freedom fighter and popularly known as the ‘Iron man of India’.

After handing over the soil and farm implements to BJP state president Sh. Kamal Sharma, Badal said that Patel played a pro-active role in the unity and nation building, and symbolic to his true character “we have started collecting material from nearly 12,500 villages across the state.”

Sardar Patel as an able administrator included 562 provincially states in the national mainstream, he mentioned.

He said that Sardar Patel belonged to a family of agriculturists and got higher education due to which he could easily feel the pulse of the people. He made an outstanding contribution in the national freedom struggle and became the first Union Home Minister in the Post-Independence era. Badal, on the occasion, also said that the statue would be a symbol of unity, adding that an Agriculture Research Centre and Museum would also be constructed to disseminate the views and ideology of the ‘Iron Man of India’.

The Chief Minister stated that a person who did not comprehend the problems of the villages could neither understand the country nor formulate the policies for the welfare of the country’s poor and oppressed farmers.

He bemoaned that the Congress gave away the legacy of Sardar Patel and was now suppressing the poor section of the society.

Badal appealed all to show the door to Congress in the forthcoming elections for its anti-people policies. He said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was the true successor of Sardar Patel’s legacy as he could only run the country to fulfil the aspirations of the people and therefore the NDA should be voted to power to ensure overall development and welfare of its people.

Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, BJP state president Kamal Sharma said that this campaign was being launched from Badal village and would continue across the state for a month to collect soil from sacred places and agriculture implements for the statue of Sardar Patel. He said that these tools of iron would be re-casted for its usage in the statue.

Sharma also divulged details of the project saying that this statue would be 182 meter high and would be double in height from the ‘Statue of Liberty’ in the USA. He said that nearly Rs 2,500 crore would be spent on this statue and it would be the highest statue in the world, adding that the statue was being installed near Kewaria in Narmada district at Sadhu Baid Island nearly 3.5 kilometre from Sardar Sarovar Dam.
